Turkey: EU Talks May Lead to $10,000 per Capita Income
By the time Turkey finishes its accession talks with the European Union, Turkey's GDP, which is currently $350 billion, will reach a trillion dollars and Turkey's current per capita income around $5,000 will then work out at $10,000, said Ali Babacan, the Minister of State and Top Negotiator to EU, during the 4th Congress of Commerce launched by the chamber of commerce, Zaman Daily reports. Within the next decade, an average growth rate of six or seven percent will eventually gain Turkey a $700 billion GND, the minister noted with the condition that there will be a considerable amount of decrease in informal economy, and methods of GND calculation will undergo notable changes along the EU adaptation process. Considering all these factors, the aim of reaching the point where Turkey will enjoy a one-trillion-dollar GND and $10,000 per capita income is far from being a dream. On the contrary, it is realistic as well as it is an attainable plan, said Babacan. Turkey will, Babacan said, be one of the biggest economies in Europe.
