Netherlands new cabinet ministers announced
Notable newcomer is geneticist and Volkskrant columnist Ronald Platserk (Labour PvdA) as new Minister for Education. Director of the Christian democrat CDA research institute Ab Klink will be Minister for Public Health, a ministry that may be renamed Youth and Health. It is also a surprise that Amsterdam alderman Ahmed Aboutaleb, long ago hinted at for a ministerial post by PvdA leader Wouter Bos, will not serve as minister after all but instead state secretary of Social Affairs. Aboutaleb said via a spokesperson that he will put his heart and soul into the position, so that he “can make the difference.” “I don’t care about the honour or the title. I’m in it for the work.” He will be working under CDA Minister for Social Affairs Piet Hein Donner. “I am confident about our cooperation, and believe that I can learn a great deal from him,” said Aboutaleb.
Former CDA faction leader Maxime Verhagen will head Foreign Affairs.
