U.S. Condemns Cartoons Depicting Prophet Mohammed
The U.S. government on Friday spoke out against caricatures of Islam's Prophet Mohammed that were published in Europen newspapers. State Department spokesman Kurtis Cooper says, "These cartoons are indeed offensive to the belief of Muslims. We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression, but it must be coupled with press responsibility. Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable."
