MILAN (AFX) - Italy's centre-left leader Romano Prodi is expected to pick former European Central Bank board member Tommasso Padoa-Schioppa as economy minister, if Prodi succeeds in forming a government, said La Stampa Saturday in an unsourced report. Prodi has said he expects his government to take 1-2 months to form after last week's close election results, while prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has yet to concede defeat and is challenging some counts. La Stampa said Padoa-Schioppa is clear frontrunner to be economy minister because of his economic expertise, which would be favoured by international markets.
