Demonstrations across Europe in support of Lebanon
he stricken people of Lebanon have gathered to hold a vigil in memory of the victims of Qana. At least 54 people, the majority of them children, were obliterated when Israeli aircraft pounded the village. This, the bloodiest single attack during Israel's 19 day-old offensive on Hizbollah, has galvanised international opinion. An estimated five thousand held a demonstration in the belgian capital, Brussels. Their aim; to show support for the Lebanese people and express outrage at the killing in Qana.
There was "anger and indignation" in Paris as hundreds gathered at twilight to hold a minute's silence in memory of the victims. While thousands of demonstrators braved the soaring temperatures in London's Trafalgar Square to voice their anger at Prime Minister Tony Blair's hitherto supportive stance on the Israeli offensive.
