A vulnerable dollar? Germany at the EU helm; Eroticized adolescence; Considering Turkey
In reality, the Union remains the only source of global influence for the increasingly outsized European nations. Moreover, it is now the single entity in the world trying to re-establish some democratic control over the darker consequences of borderless markets that are mostly neglected by neoliberal ideologues.
On the political side, the authors' mockery appears to be careless and short-sighted when one seriously considers the alternative of having no European Union at all. Furthermore, to ignore the growing numbers of "losers" among the subjects of deregulated economies is to risk not only the necessary modernization of national economies, but the progressive development of globalization as a whole.
