Norwegian banks on Europe - airline expansion
Budget airline Norwegian Air Shuttle has stepped up its duel with traditional giant SAS Braathens, further increasing its routes to Europe.Norwegian travelers are now getting expanded choice and competition as Norwegian Air Shuttle now has 77 European routes to SAS Braathens' 33. In addition to offering a new and wider selection of destinations the cut-price airline has kept its prices well under its larger rival, with a long-term Aftenposten survey charting Norwegian on average about half the price of SAS Braathens.
In recent years Norwegian has opened over 30 new routes to Europe while SAS Braathens has settled for 18 additions, and in 2007 SAS Braathens has opted not to add any new destinations. Norwegian will launch at least seven new routes, to Spain, Latvia, France, Scotland, Croatia and Serbia, from Oslo and Trondheim.
