"Ageing Europe not a threat says EU
The demographic timebomb facing the EU should be seen as an opportunity, not a threat, according to European commission chiefs.
Vladimir Spidla, EU employment and social affairs commissioner, told delegates at a conference on regional policy on Thursday that nearly half of EU regions are likely to have a population in 2031 below the level of 2004.
Eastern and northern parts of Europe, including new members Bulgaria and Romania, will suffer the biggest decline in population, along with parts of Finland and Sweden."
