Spirit Airlines orders 30 Airbus planes
Airbus SAS won an order from Spirit Airlines, a U.S. discount carrier, for 30 single-aisle planes valued at $1.8 billion at list prices. The contract today brings Miramar, Fla.-based Spirit Airlines' total orders with Airbus to 44 planes, the Toulouse, France-based planemaker said in a statement. The transaction, signed in late 2006, schedules deliveries of the new planes between October 2009 and mid-2013, Airbus said. Closely held Spirit said in 2005 that it planned to become an all-Airbus operator by early 2007 to reduce costs. The airline now operates a fleet of 31 purchased and leased A320s.
