Immigration has long been a hot issue the world over, not least in Europe. Millions of immigrants try to come to Europe every year in hope of a better life. But for many the doors are barred.
The EU's leading immigration official, Franco Frattini, has urgently called for the bloc's border agency to be beefed up, to avoid a fresh wave of illegal immigrants this year.
But does it have to be this way? One radical theory for change is to open borders completely and allow migrants to get in legally. That's what British economist Philippe Legrain calls for in his new book 'Immigrants: your country needs them.' He says borders are not only cruel and ineffective, but that we all actually need more immigrants.
