ECB's Trichet: Exit when inflation threat seen
The European Central Bank will remove the extraordinary stimulus measures it has taken to boost the economy when they begin to pose an inflationary threat, its President Jean-Claude Trichet said on Friday. In a speech at the University of Venice, Trichet said the ECB would not stray from its primary mission of price stability, while the design of the emergency measures put in place over the crisis made retracting them easier.
'Any non-standard measure whose continuation would compromise the maintenance of price stability at any time in the future will be undone promptly and unequivocally,' Trichet said.
