The Spanish government has dismissed former top army chief, General Julio Rodriguez, who recently announced plans to run in the general elections with the anti-austerity party Podemos.
Rodriguez was removed from his position as Chairman of the Royal and Military Order of Saint Hermenegild.
In a statement on Friday, the government said he had violated his duty of neutrality with his statements following his Podemos announcement.
