Skills for Europe - Building a Knowledge Society
Education and Skills Secretary Ruth Kelly will today call on her fellow EU education ministers to join her in the challenge to increase investment in skills for the 21st Century. She will tell an Informal meeting of Education Ministers being held in London that it is time for them to take centre stage in pursuing the Lisbon Agenda to provide a stable foundation of increased employment and make Europe the most competitive and dynamic knowledge based economy in the world. Mrs. Kelly, who will chair the meeting, will tell European Ministers that she believes education and skills cannot only drive up economic performance but can have a positive impact on nations' societies and the lives of their citizens.
