Italy to start pulling out troops from Iraq in September
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said here on Friday that Italy will pull out some of its 3,000- strong forces from Iraq as planned in September. “As far as our troop withdrawal goes, the situation has not changed. We will begin, as I have already announced, a partial withdrawal of around 300 troops in September,” Berlusconi told a press conference on the sideline of the G8 summit. He also said that Italy was a prime target of Islamic militants because of its forces’ presence in Iraq and was directly in the firing line.
