This week the European Commission (EC) gave Britain a grave warning on legal action against 17 member states for not opening their energy markets.The UK received a ‘letter of formal notice’ relating to the failure to properly implement EU directives.
Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, Spain, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Sweden and Slovakia also received notice. Energy commissioner Andris Piebalgs said: "The member states must implement the directives on gas and electricity quickly and in full, not only in form but also in substance.
