This BUD is for Europe as Bud' beats 'Bit' in European Union court
St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch Cos. is a step closer to getting a European Union-wide trademark for "Bud" after a court rejected a German beermaker's claim that the name might cause confusion in noisy bars.
The European Court of First Instance in Luxembourg Thursday said there is no likelihood of confusion between A-B's trademarks and those owned by Bitburger Brauerei. The German brewer had argued that the Bud name was too similar to its "Bit" brand, especially in crowded clubs and bars.
