Review: 'Capitalism' will probably make you 'mad as hell' - by Randy Myers
Love him or hate him, liberal filmmaker Michael Moore is something of a modern-day Howard Beale, urging us to get outraged over injustices he perceives to be perpetrated by conservatives, be it the Iraq War ("Fahrenheit 9/11") or the health-care industry ("Sicko"). "Capitalism: A Love Story" is the filmmaker's latest rage against the political and societal machinery, and it's one of his most entertaining and humorous calls for activism yet. It's also one of his most sprawling efforts, ambitiously setting out to show how the pursuit of private ownership has been exploited by a tiny percentage of Americans who are extremely wealthy but morally bankrupt. The tall order to cover such fertile terrain in just over two hours forces Moore to sometimes hopscotch too quickly from person to person, not following up and fleshing out details later as he should. A tense opening sequence with cops breaking into a home we assume is in foreclosure, for example, isn't revisited again.
