US wants to place a missile defence base in EU by 2011
The building of a U.S. missile defence base in Europe would increase the chance of the whole system´s success and help ensure the security of the allies, U.S. Missile Defense Agency head Henry Obering says in the Czech daily Hospodarske noviny.
The host country is to be the Czech Republic, Poland, or both countries which would host a radar and the missiles respectively. Obering says the US wants to earmark USD600-700 million for the project. One third of the sum would be needed to finance the radar. A large part of the sum would go to local firms, Obering told the paper.
