Maine European wind trade mission yields pact
The wind-power trade mission to Europe led by Gov. John Baldacci has brought about an agreement with a Norwegian firm for further study into deep-water offshore generation. Baldacci and Habib Dagher, director of the University of Maine's Advanced Structures and Composites Center, signed the agreement with StatoilHydro to collaborate on research and development to see whether the Norwegian company's offshore turbine would work in the Gulf of Maine. The Maine Sunday Telegram says that in addition to the research agreement, Maine companies involved in wind power construction were able to build relationships with overseas companies. The weeklong trip took the delegation to Germany, Spain and Norway.
