Germany has been hit by unusually heavy snowfall, causing traffic disruption and dangerous driving conditions. Meteorologists say the cold front is sweeping in from Scandinavia, and will continue for some time yet.
Up to 20 inches of snow has fallen in recent days and the plummeting temperatures have resulted in widespread black-ice, leading to an increase in accidents, for both pedestrians and drivers alike.
In Bavaria, more than 50 people have been injured in several hundred incidents. Meanwhile no planes could land more at Vienna Airport and other airports in neighbouring countries are also reporting flight disruptions.
The next few days will see the frosty weather continue and drivers are being urged to drive extremely carefully.
